About Us
THE ART OF BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU WAS INTRODUCED IN 2008 AND THE FEDERATION FOUNDED IN MAURITIUS, BOTH SINGLE-HANDEDLY BY MR. MUHAMAD TAWFIQ JAUNBOCUS- BJJ PRACTITIONER. HE IMPLEMENTED THE SPORT INITIALLY AT MEDINE, CAMP DE MASQUE (A SMALL VILLAGE IN THE EAST). PLAYING A PIVOTAL ROLE IN THE SETTING UP AND RUNNING OF BJJ EVENTS, HE LAID THE GROUNDWORK FOR THE SPORT TO THRIVE ACROSS MAURITUS AND RODRIGUES AT ACADEMIC AND COMPETITIVE LEVELS.
MBJJF
Nowadays Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu clubs has been implemented in mostly all regions according to the sports act of Mauritius.
In the same year 2008, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation took birth as a Non-Profit Organisation with the help and support of managing committee members. Gradually the Federation keep on going and new members keep on enrolling.

Under the leadership of Mr Farook Pirbacosse -President (2008-2010/2010-2014)- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was finally granted recognition by the Ministry of Youth and Sports as an official sport on the 8 July 2014.
The approval to represent the country of Mauritius and work under its name has been gracefully obtained through Mohsena Olath-Caramtally -secretary of the federation- from the Prime Minister’s Office on the 7 October 2015.
The Mauritius Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (MBJJF) set up its Academy in 2015 and became affiliated with the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation in 2012. As from 2016, the MBJJF sought recognition from the Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF) and Sport Jiu-Jitsu African Federation (SJJAF).
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is today the fastest growing sport among all martial arts and combat sports in Mauritius.
BJJ is more than a simple sport; it is a way of life.
It is an art that requires dedication, time and collaboration while benefitting people of all ages both physically and mentally. The MBJJF cordially invites all of you to embark on this enriching journey with us!

Use of the name “Mauritius” has been officially granted to MBJJF by Prime Minister’s Office
- First International Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Tournament in Mauritius (UST 2016)

- 4 gold medals in Ultimate Submission Tournament 2016, Mauritius (MBJJF)
